"I don't think Italian football has reached rock bottom. If we judge the quality of our football based on one result, it would be wrong," Gravina said.
Gravina said these things while appearing at the publication event of a book by Ivan Zazaroni in Rome. "After 2018, Italy went 37 matches unbeaten under Roberto Mancini and won the European Championship in 2021, which are remarkable achievements," he said.
"Before 2018 none of the youth teams would have made it to the finals. But today the under-nineteen and under-seventeen teams have both won the European Championship."
He made some comments about the two World Cup qualifiers in which Italy dropped points. "Both Moise Kean and Pio Escoposito missed important goals, due to which we failed to qualify," he said.
"But if they had scored two goals, would we have solved all football problems in Italy in an instant?"
Gravina spoke of some novel reforms and more investment in the federation.
He wished the newly elected FIGC president well, but requested some changes on his behalf.
"It is strange that if a reform is opposed by 3% of the people, it gets blocked."
"It's not democratic and it shouldn't be for any reasonable reason. I couldn't change it, I hope he can."
