South Africa coach Hugo Brose expressed his anger at the 0-2 loss to Mexico. He talked about red cards and "common mistakes". Two red cards spelled trouble for South Africa in the Mexico match. Bros said after the match, "I don't want to say anything about the first red card, but I will say about the second red card. One of our players was blocked by a Mexican player. The referee took it as violent. It's sad that we had to finish the match with 9 men.
"South Africa have played 10 matches in the World Cup. We have a record of 10% red cards in 3 of these matches. This is not a case of us playing with less than 10 people. In 2006 we had to play with less than 10 men in one of our group matches against both Netherlands and Portugal.

"Our attack must improve. Today (Tuesday) we played against 9 men. Yet we were very disappointing in our attack. We had only 3 shots. 1 of which was on target. Our Total Expected Goals (xG) was 0.07.
"Our next match is against Czech Republic. I hope we can play with 11."
