Reaching the knockout stages of the World Cup is nothing new for the United States Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT). But usually this is where they get out quickly. This is their 8th knockout stage in 12 World Cups, and the question is whether this will be something new, or another quick exit. The 2026 World Cup will feature 32 teams in the first knockout round, which will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States. But to advance to the second round of the World Cup, the U.S. faced a very tough group — Brazil, Argentina, England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal. The USA had to avoid these big teams, so they had to finish first in their group with Canada and Mexico to reach the knockout stage. But if they go to the knockout stage, a bigger challenge awaits them — to make it to the knockout stage, they have to finish second to go to the second round. If they can't go first, then they have to be drawn in a different group in the second round, where there will be — Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, England, Spain, Portugal, if they play any of these countries, it will be a super match. But it will be very difficult for the US to get there.
