Barcelona 40 million euros for 22-year-old midfielder Marc Casado
Marc Casado is a talented midfielder who has emerged from Barcelona's La Masia academy. He is currently getting less playing time under Hansi Flick and the club are keen to sell him.
Why is this important?
The decision to sell Marc Casado is an important move for Barcelona as the club look to improve their financial situation. As the 22-year-old midfielder is an up-and-coming player from La Masia, his sale would almost certainly be a net gain for the club. Meanwhile, the declining importance of Casado under Hansi Flick was also a factor behind this decision.

Barcelona place €40 million price tag on 22-year-old homegrown midfielder – report.
Barcelona have been keen to sell some players since the start of the summer transfer window, with Ansu Fati and Ignacy Pena leaving the club for other clubs. Another player Barcelona have been looking to sell since the start of this transfer window is Marc Casado. The 22-year-old midfielder has lost importance under Hansi Flick. Now, Mundo Deportivo reports, Barcelona are ready to sell Marc Casado for 40 million euros. The club have said they are willing to sell if an offer is made for this price. According to reports, Flick has told the club that any offers for Casado should be considered. Because they now have enough depth in defensive midfield, even with the injury to Frenkie de Jong. Barcelona have already turned down an offer, which was below their set price. With transfer fees rising in Europe and the Middle East this summer, Barcelona believe €40 million is a reasonable price for Casado. Also, as Casado is a player who came up from La Masia, his transfer fee will almost entirely count as a profit, making it highly profitable to sell him from a Financial Fair Play point of view. Casado is aware of the situation through his agent, Jorge Mendes. Mendes is discussing Casado's future with the club. Clubs in Saudi Arabia have not lost interest in Casado. With clubs in the Saudi Pro League busy pouring money on players, Casado could be taken there.
Casado's role changed a lot last season. He was called up to the Spain national team for the first time in the 2024–25 season and played well, but his playing time decreased significantly the following season. If Barcelona decide to sell Marc Casado, it won't be easy for them. Because Casado is exactly the type of player that Barcelona have historically placed in their academy squads. He understands the club's style of play, is a hard worker and at 22 still has room to improve. However, the club always has plenty of talent in midfield, so keeping a 22-year-old player who is not playing matches is not fair to another player. If an offer closer to €40 million comes in, the club will have a tough decision to make. However, Casado is not out of the team. He attended pre-season training with Barcelona in England. Now it remains to be seen whether he will stay at Barcelona next season.
What will happen next?
Barcelona have set a price tag of 40 million euros for Casado and the club are hoping that interested clubs will come in to pay that price. Casado's agent Jorge Mendes continues to negotiate with the club, and there is still interest in him from clubs in Saudi Arabia. Casado's sale is likely to be completed before the summer transfer window closes.
