Scottish Premier League club Motherwell have appointed Alfred Johansson as their new coach. The 35-year-old Swede has joined the Motherwell coach aiming to build on last season's success.
Alfred Johansson has taken over as Motherwell's new coach, replacing Jens Barthel Asko. Asko led the club to fourth place in the Scottish Premier League last season but has now moved to Toulouse.
Motherwell said they had appointed former Rosenberg club coach Alfred Johansson in the same manner as previous coaches Michael Wimmer and Asko. Club chairman Kirk McMillan said, "The way we play and the way we want to play in the future is to follow a data-driven approach. But with this approach, we also ensure that good people are brought into the club. Alfred has the qualities that will help him achieve our goals. He is an ambitious and hard-working coach who wants to lead the club to success."
Last season under Jens Asko, Motherwell won 16 of 38 league games and collected a total of 61 points. Alfred Johansson said, "I have analyzed the club in detail and the directions it is going in are important to me. Last season was great, I can keep it as I want. Our squad is very attractive and we want to start working."
Motherwell will play the first leg of the European Conference League qualifying round against Faroe Islands' Havnar Boltfelag on July 23. And on August 2 they will play the first match of the league at Hibernian ground.
