A historic match between Brazil and Japan is taking place in the knockout stages of the World Cup. This match, which has a special heritage as well as sporting value, is that it recalls an invaluable chapter directly related to the popular manga story of Holly and Benji (Captain Tsubasa). In 1982 Japan won the World Youth Championship in Jessore defeating Brazil. Oliver Hutson (Tsubasa Ozora) scored the winning goal for Japan in that match. The story of this historical match is from the 8th to 12th volume of the manga. In addition to Oliver, the other star players of the Japanese team were: Benji Price (Genzo Wakabayashi), Mark Landers (Kojiro Hyuga) and Tom Baker (Taro Misaki). On the other hand, notable among the Brazilian players was Carlos Santana, who was the main star of the Brazilian team. The final was held in Japan and was attended by Japanese fans. Brazil pretty much controlled the game after the match started. Japan relied solely on goalkeeper Benji to survive the first half without conceding a goal. In the second half, Brazil's Carlos Santana scored a great goal to give Brazil the lead. But Tom Baker, another Japanese star who had been struggling with injury, entered the field, and his presence completely changed the course of the match. Japan equalized with a coordinated attack from Tom and Oliver, before Landers scored another goal from Oliver's pass to give Japan the lead. Just when everything seemed to be going in Japan's favor, Brazil scored in the last minute of the match to equalize 2-2. As a result, the match went into extra time. Japan went ahead again in extra time 3-2, and they went on to win. Although this historic match and Japan's historic victory did not result in any subsequent match or tournament with Brazil, a final was held in the 2013 to 2023 Rising Sun arc of the manga in which both Brazil and Japan participated, but the final was one-sided, with Japan winning.
