South Korea coach Hong Myeong-bo is hoping that their last group match against South Africa in Monterrey, Mexico on Wednesday (Dec 6) will be a home match. They are hoping for the kind of support the players received to reach the semi-finals when South Korea co-hosted the 2002 World Cup with Japan. Many Mexico fans supported South Korea as they beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in their Group A opener in Guadalajara, Guyana. Hong Myeong-bo said, "If the field looks like ours tomorrow, it will be a big gift for us. We will take that gift well and play the match well." At the 2018 World Cup, South Korea defeated Germany 2–0 to secure Mexico's place in the knockout stages, en route to the semi-finals. At the time, Mexican supporters rallied in front of the South Korean consulate chanting, "Coriano, Ermano, ya eres Mexicano (Korean brother, you are Mexican now)." Since then, a friendly relationship has developed between the supporters of the two countries. Lee Ha-young, a South Korean fan, said, "Mexican fans have a lot of energy, more than us. We have energy, but it's hard for us to express it." It is an important match for South Korea as the match against South Africa is the last match of the group. South Korea is currently 2nd in the group with 3 points as the match between Czech Republic and South Africa drew 1-1. South Africa and Czech Republic have 1 point each. So if they win or draw against South Africa, South Korea will go to the knockout stage. But if South Africa wins, they will need to beat South Korea to advance to the knockout stage. If they advance to the next round, South Korea will travel to Los Angeles, USA, where they will play against the runners-up of Group B. More than 300,000 South Korean-Americans live in Los Angeles. But now South Korean fans are hoping for more support in Mexico. Lee Ha-young said, "If we can go to the knockout stage, maybe we have to go to the United States, but I don't want to go. I want to stay in Mexico." --- ## Related Articles 1. [🚨 Spectators must leave the stadium! France vs Iraq match suspended - Yahoo Sports](https://maidaansports.com/hi/news/-yahoo-sports) 2.
